2009 Voters Guides
The Voters Guide Part I Facts for Voters is on our website NOW! As you
know, many of our polling places will be participating in the pilot of the
optical scanning equipment, and so the guide has a description of the
process for pilot counties, in addition to a description of the not-so-new
Ballot Marking Devices (BMDs). A camera-ready version in PDF format, as well
as a word version, is on the web site, so Leagues that wish to print the
guide locally can do so. Local Leagues that ordered paper copies of Part 1
should also be receiving their copies this week.
While we are still awaiting the wording of the ballot proposal, there will
be a constitutional amendment presented as pros and cons in the Voters
Guide Part 2. The amendment is yet another to the forever wild section of
the constitution concerning the Adirondack Park to allow for a power line to
traverse park land. You can see a discussion of that amendment at these web
sites:

-line.html

In addition, there will be information about the NYS Supreme Court judicial
election process as there was in 2007. Please note that local Leagues order
and pay for this guide separately from Part 1. The order form for Part 2
will be available in the next couple of weeks so watch your emails.
Your Right to Vote in New York State Series
Good news! We have received underwriting from the NYS Bar Association for
the design work on this pamphlet series and for printing services. The
results are posted on our web site and available for Leagues to print
locally or to order in quantity from the State League office. Our series of
five informational pamphlets address the voting issues relevant to
particular populations, including college students, homeless individuals,
individuals convicted of crimes or detained in jail or prison, individuals
with physical disabilities and individuals with mental health disabilities.
These guides provide special assistance to these populations who often
encounter impediments to voting or have questions on their rights in the
electoral process. Order forms are available on the website if you would
like to purchase these Guides only $20 per 100 brochures (reduced from an
earlier price because of the underwriting).
More election news to come so keep watching the website and your emails!
