Yes, it is true that we are separate, but Jack did send the revised schedule to Janice without us needing to ask.
During the demos, as I set up ( usually outside of the building that they were in) they were friendly and got used to us being 'with them'. I liked the fact that I could encourage people of all ages to try the new machine..'.it puts the fun back into voting' with follow up conversations about their experiences. The BOE techs were 'stuck inside' while I 'solicited participation from outside :).
Little gifts to draw them to my table where flyer's of 'Your right to vote' and others to provoke discussion. Even an occasional voter registration form for someone back home. I found that if they were not a voter...they showed no interest.
I especially like the fact that NYS Senator Mike Nozzolio went in at my suggestion and listened to my advice that seniors may need to do an absentee ballot (based on my observation at a BOE demo and discussion at a senior citizens' lunch watching some struggle with filling in the box). Believe it or not, I feel that senior citizens will be shy about and maybe embarrassed by having difficulty with the form.
Ok, a few thoughts from a LWV>>NY>>WC 'vendor'. slk

Subject: voting machines and LWV
The Wayne County Board of Elections is demonstrating the new voting machine at various places around the county. It was made very clear to our new, small, LWV that we were not to be part of it. We can register voters nearby, if we wish, but have to make our own arrangements and, as I said, make it clear that we have nothing to do with the Board of Elections.
