[LocalLeaguePresidents] URGENT - WE NEED YOUR HELP

Hi all-



I am writing to ask your help in a matter of great urgency.  As you know,
the League is a co-sponsor of “Albany On the Record” to be held on
Wednesday, May 5 at the Capitol in Albany from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m..
The League of Women Voters has received a $10,000 grant for this event.  Its
sole task is to bring members of the public to Albany on that day.  Despite
having received widespread publicity throughout the state, we still have not
received the public interest we had hoped this event would generate. I need
for you to send the attached flyer to all your members urging them, their
family, friends, neighbors, members of their churches, temples, and mosques,
and members of organizations to which they belong to register for and attend
this event.  They must pledge to attend and register immediately on-line at
the link on our website, www.lwvny.org, by e-mailing the League office at
may5 at lwvny.org, faxing the completed flyer to the office at 518-465-0812 or
by calling Laura at 518-465-4162.  Registration is essential, in that busses
can run only if sufficient interest is generated.  If an e-mail does not
generate sufficient interest, I suggest that you call League members and ask
that they spread the message to other groups.



Our ability to mobilize members has implications for the financial and
operational health of the League far beyond this event.  The funders have
indicated an interest in working to mobilize major foundations to fund the
good government agenda contained in our Fix Albany Now Agenda.  To the
extent they are successful, this could result in a major influx of support
for League program at both the state and local levels.  If we wish to remain
in the loop, we must mobilize people to attend this event.
