[LocalLeaguePresidents] LWVNYS Polling Place Survey

Hello, everyone and I'm sure you are very busy out there. Notwithstanding,
we would like to alert you to something we would like to ask your members to
do.

 

As you know, each year as new voting technology has been introduced, Aimee
Allaud, our voting systems off-board specialist, has asked for feedback
about how things seemed to be going at our members' polling places. This
year, with the pilot introduction of the optical scanning equipment, we
would like to ask League members in the pilot counties (both partial and
county-wide pilots) to voluntarily answer a few survey questions, and are in
the process of designing the survey instrument. We anticipate that the
survey will have few questions and that they will be addressable by our
members without questioning the poll workers/inspectors. The questions
probably will revolve around the following issues, most of which surfaced
during the primary pilots:

 

1. Privacy: the booths and use of the privacy sleeve

2. Marking the ballot: the device used and the instructions provided

3. The role of the poll worker in feeding the ballot

4. Any observations made of the handling of rejected ballots

5. Lines and delays if any

6. Any general comments about voter satisfaction or worker competence.

 

We will ask members of Leagues in pilot counties whose polling place is a
pilot site to post their survey results online. We will be sending an email
message to those individual members, giving them a link to our web page
where the survey can be completed. We wanted you to be aware that this is
happening so as not to surprise you if questions come from your members. The
email will tell them to direct questions to the office or to Aimee/me.

 

Please let us know if you have concerns. We will send a draft of the survey
instrument out to you shortly.
