Hi all-
Just in case you all aren't on the national leaders listserve, I thought I'd share Shirley's comments on a recent webinar. I agree with her that everyone should consider these training options - they are free, easy and provide great information.
Thanks for sharing, Shirley!

Subject: [lwv-leaders] Today's Webinar & Networking within the League
Greetings, everyone! I want to share my experiences today after having participated in the LWVUS webinar on "Stress Free Debates" which utilized a combination of an easy website log in, along with a phone interface to hear the audio. I have nothing but good things to say about this; the technology was quick and easy (I had the system call my cell phone and I put it on speaker and the website was fast to load showing the presentation slide and polls with ease), ther presenters were very well prepared with the presentation and follow up questions, the format was clear and flowed in a natural, understandable way, the polls were useful and tabulated quickly, and the membership attendance was diverse and their follow-up questions were informative. IF YOU'RE CONCERNED ABOUT TECHNOLOGY ISSUES - DON'T BE! THIS WAS EASY! All you need is a phone and a computer with a decent internet connection and that's it - speaker phone is helpful but not necessary! DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY IT OUT BECAUSE IT SOUNDS TOO "TECHNICAL" ;) It's EASY!!
After the hour long and well-paced presentation, even though I didn't have questions or interact directly, I felt as though I had engaged with the LWV on a more personal level. I was able to see who else attended, hear voices I've never heard, gained perspective from around the country, and I would really love to see this webinar technology implemented on more topics, and judging by the participants today who had experience with moderating debates (they held 2/3 of the majority of the participants vs. the 1/3 of us with no experience), it's clear that even those who are experienced in certain areas want to collaborate with others to learn from each other as well as pass on the nuggets of wisdom gained often through trying situations. I also think this format is excellent for networking Local Leagues with National, and creating a team spirit by breaking up any feeling of isolation. I sincerely encourage anyone on the Local or State League level to participate in such forums, and I also am hoping that National and State Leagues, where feasible, will continue to utilize this technology and find more ways to bring this kind of education, outreach and interaction in the future. Also, if you're a Local League president who can't attend a webinar, DO encourage a pertinent member/board member to attend in your stead. Today's webinar was a very valuable exchange, and I hope to see this sort of outreach continue. Three cheers to LWVUS and today's presenters who put together such an informative and interactive webinar! Great job!
