Hi Everyone:

Walter Shur, husband of former LWVNYS board member Ruth Shur, made a major
donation to LWVUS in honor of his wife (who recently passed) and her
commitment to the League of Women Voters. The money will be used for a
national leadership training program.

As indicated in the notice below from Carol Reimers, LWVUS Membership and
League Support Committee Co-Chair, LWVUS will accept applications through
January 15 for its first class of Ruth Shur fellows. I urge you to consider
applying for a fellowship and/or to send it along to members you feel would
exemplify the qualities being sought. Feel free to contact me with any
questions, and let me know if you are interested or if you know anybody you
think would do a good job as a Shur fellow.

Thanks for your help. Happy Holidays!

Subject: [lwv-leaders] National Coaches Needed

Hi,
As you may have read in the weekly Leaders Update, LWVUS is looking for
League members who have an interest in coaching and training. The Ruth S.
Shur Fellows will be a terrific addition to leadership development. Here is
the overview and the links to more information and a nomination form.

Please consider nominating someone you think would be a great coach,
including yourself. The deadline is January 15, 2010.

Seeking Applicants for National League Coaches (Ruth S. Shur Fellow)

The LWVUS has developed, tested and refined its innovative approach to
strengthening League capacity, the Membership Recruitment Initiative (MRI).
Now, we are adding leadership development components to this successful
program. We have found that one key element that is critical for success is
providing regular monthly coaching to participating Leagues after their
training and their development of outreach plans.

The LWVUS is now seeking 12 national coaches (Ruth S. Shur Fellows) to help
expand the number of state and local Leagues that can participate in this
MRI program during 2010-12. Coaches will receive national training,
participate in regional and state training sessions for Leagues and receive
ongoing support from the LWVUS.
