• NPV (National Popular Voter Compact) Consensus Results NEW
  One of the items the LWVUS Board considered at their recent Board meeting was the results of the consensus process on the NPV compact study. On the recommendation of the Program Planning Committee and the NPV study committee, the Board approved the following statement of position:
  "The LWVUS affirms its support of the direct election of the president and abolition of the Electoral College, but the LWVUS has no position on the National Popular Vote Compact as studied in 2008-2009." Read recommendations from Committee report here. (6/3/09)

Deadline for the LWVUS National Popular Vote Study consensus is May 1, 2009
All of of the NPV study materials are now on the LWVUS Web site at: http://www.lwv.org
Materials include: text of the NPV bill, background paper, supporting arguments, opposing arguments, suggested resource list, a study guide, consensus questions and the consensus response form. You will also find a series of Voter ready articles that can be published.    

LWVUS NPV Study Discussion List
Local Leagues will benefit greatly by having someone in their League subscribe to the discussion list. The NPV study committee members along with hundreds of members from across the country are on the list. In a matter of moments, one can have a question answered or a suggestion given. Sign up by logging in at: https://member.lwv.org/

Under “Role Related Lists” select “National Popular Vote Study”. Provide an email address with which you wish to receive and send postings to the discussion list. You will be sent an email confirmation to which you need to reply. Once you are registered on the NPV Discussion list, you can log in and click on “view recent posts” where you can read all of the postings since the inception of the discussion list.  I encourage Leagues to turn to this discussion list for information about the study.

2. On Chautauqua, NY League's YouTube site there is a video of a political science professor from SUNY Fredonia giving a non-partisan, informative and historical talk on the NPV and how it may or may not play out. 3. LWV Schenectady held a NPV education meeting on September 10th. Christopher Pearson from National Popular Vote presented the mechanics of the NPV compact. Channel 16 public access TV recorded the event for LWVNYS. The recording on DVD can be purchased & shipped (or picked up at the state office) for $10.
